I think it's gonna blow!

In the interest of making items and funds in the guild bank more accessible to active players while at the same time maintaining the security, I recently reorganized the guild ranks to include “Authenticated.” This rank has the same permissions as far as personnel management as the rest of the Crones, but with increased access to the guild bank. The requirement thus far for the rank is only that you have a Blizzard Authenticator or the Authenticator App for the iPhone and iPod Touch attached to your account and are an active, contributory member to the guild.

The authenticator and the associated iPhone/iPod app is an extra step of software security that makes it harder for accounts to be hacked and guild banks stripped. In the initial guild rank organization Wormetta (Carol), Dandelion (David) and I decided that the best plan was for a single character per founding member to have limited access to the officer tab in the guild bank, while only the character currently wearing the GM title would be able to withdraw gold. However, as the items in the guild bank have gotten dusty, and the gold sits there without accruing interest, I thought it would be a good idea if there was more fluidity to all the random stuff that was on deposit.

Enter: Authenticated. Currently Dandelion and Wormetta have the rank of Authenticated, because I have seen the Core Hound Pups that are rewarded to the owner of an account with an authenticator attached. It allows them access to the guild gold, and increased management capabilities of the piles of mats and things. This means that when Helaina is not logged in there are other guild members who can help you if you’ve reached your withdrawal limit, or would like to snag some cash for a mount purchase, some crafting mats, or that too too sweet Princess Leia slave outfit that’s on sale in the Auction House.

If anyone has any feedback or further suggestions for keeping the guild bank sane and useful I’d love to hear them.

As of a month ago, a Chinese MMO company has started banning accounts of male players that play female characters in their game. Only a few news sites outside of China have picked up on the ruling.

Aurora Technology, a subsidiary of MMO giant Shanda that publishes many MMOs in China, including AION, Dungeons & Dragons Online, and Company of Heroes Online, started requiring players of their MMO King of the World, to start proving their gender via webcam. The rule, which was first announced in late September, seems to apply only to male players playing female characters and not the reverse.

Gamepolitics cites research firm JLM Pacific Epoch, which in turn got the story from a report on 17173.com.  Unfortunately my Google Translate skillz aren’t elite enough to let me find the original report on that site.  If true, very interesting.

The in game event begins 1 AM server time 10/18 with the return of the Headless Horseman, newly tuned for level 80, Trick’R'Treating, costume wands to beg for, and masks to collect.

As with Brewfest there is a two week window in which to complete the achievement “Hallowed Be Thy Name” and get some super sweet epics.

Helaina and Dandelion will be kicking around when Hallow’s End goes live to get an early crack at that darn Horseman, so if anyone wants to rock out around 1 AM server time, 11 PM PST, there is likely to be dancing, drinking, costumes, and yes, eating candy til you vomit.

I’ve been meaning to put together a weblog for the guild for months, but somehow have never gotten around to it. Blame it on Brewfest.

But since I’m procrastinating doing a whole bunch of domestic labor this morning, I thought I’d take a stab at it. So here’s a start. I will gladly add all of you as authors, particularly those of you interested in the weblog design. If you want to get added as an author, please comment on this post and give me your details.

I’m going to think about what pages we’ll need over the weekend as well and try to add some of those. It would be nice for people to add pictures (a guild album, perhaps?), links, perhaps a schedule for dungeons, etc.

But more on all this later. I really have to start making those muffins . . .
